Melchizedek
This morning we explore the encounter between Abraham and the mysterious Priest-King Melchizedek in Genesis 14, using it as a foundation to understand Hebrews chapter 7. It explains that Melchizedek, whose titles mean "King of Righteousness" and "King of Peace," serves as an enduring prototype for Jesus Christ. Because Abraham offered a tithe to Melchizedek and received his blessing long before the Levitical law existed, the passage illustrates that God's eternal priesthood is far superior to any earthly religious system. Ultimately, this encourages believers to avoid placing our trust in temporary political leaders or safe, familiar routines. Instead, we are called to anchor our hope entirely in Jesus, the final and forever Priest-King who provides true rescue, forgiveness, and grace.
