How do you love God and love people?

I asked a friend of mine this question, and he said "It is because you love God, you love people". I thought this was a great answer and rooted in Biblical truth. Off the top of my head I think of Jesus' words in Matthew 22:34-40, where Jesus answers a question on "what is the greatest commandment?"

This brought me back to the story of Moses which began in ancient Egypt. The Hebrew people were enslaved there for nearly 400 years. Then God used Moses to free them. They came to Mount Sinai, and Moses shares the 10 Commandments with them. What is amazing about the 10 Commandments is that they can be divided into two categories. Love God, and love people. This is what Jesus is referring to in Matthew 22:34-40.

When I think about how to love God, I am struck with God's love for me and you. God initiates love. Wow! Sometimes I cannot believe that we can actually walk with God, and love him. This Sunday we will begin a new sermon series over the next several weeks. In it, I will be teaching on how the Bible teaches us to love God and love people. We will begin our sermon series by looking at John 15:9-17.
