Let's talk about the Book of Joshua
In Joshua, after Moses' death, Joshua leads Israel and they settle in the promised land currently occupied by Canaanites.
Sermon Discussion
- Read ch 1:1-9 and think about all their wanderings in the wilderness of Sinai prior to Joshua leading them. Why would the Lord have to keep repeating "Be strong and courageous"?
- In ch 4 when the whole nation had finished cross the Jordon, the Lord told Joshua to have a representative of the 12 tribes take a large stone from the Jordon River and build a monument as a memorial (4:1-9). What do you think was God's greatest concern in having them do this? Who was the primary audience?
- When they went into battle to conquer the land what was God's first concern in preparing them? (see 5:10-12, 7:10-13)
- God's instructions to Joshua where not written to us but they were written for us. What are some of the lessons we can take home and apply if we were to say, "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord"?
