Sermon Discussion on the Meaning of Significance

What does it mean when you experience significance or meaning in your faith?

I have spent my life in search of the answer for this question. We will be taking a look at Luke 4:14-30 in order to see how Jesus models this. This was one of the harder sermons for me to write because it is so near and dear to my heart. I love helping people find their purpose and calling in life. - Pastor Assad

Read Luke 4: 14-30

  • v. 14 ..."news about him spread..." What news would that have been? (See John 2:12 - 4:1 for some of that news.)
  • v. 14,15 How is life and ministry different in the power of the Spirit? Share an experience you've had.
  • v. 15 Compare this verse with v. 28,29. What accounts for the different response? (Clue: Check out Sidon and Syria relative to Israel.)
  • v.16 "...where he had been brought up." What town was that? What was Nazareth like in that day? Think about your hometown. How has it changed since you grew up there? What is it like to go back there?
  • v.17-21 What is the reference for the Isaiah passage? Try reading this passage aloud with the tone of Jesus reading to his audience in Luke 4.
  • v. 17-21 How and when did you discover your life's calling?
  • v.22-29 Jesus could have ended the meeting with the praises of verse 22. Why do you think he pokes them in verses 23-27 leading to an attempt to kill him?
  • v. 30 How can we explain this verse?
