Worship with Orchard

One of the things our community loves to do every time we gather is worship the Lord through song. While we understand this may not be your jam, we would ask that you would open yourself to the idea of musical worship and allow this time to prepare you to hear from our speaker and the Bible.

Sermon Notes for August 8th

Series: Guest Speaker Scott Smith

Title: O Happy Day? | Psalm 122

Psalm 122

A song of ascents. Of David.

I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
Our feet are standing
    in your gates, Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is built like a city
    that is closely compacted together.
That is where the tribes go up—
    the tribes of the Lord
to praise the name of the Lord
according to the statute given to Israel.
There stand the thrones for judgment,
the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.
May there be peace within your walls
    and security within your citadels.”
For the sake of my family and friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
    I will seek your prosperity.

Be a person of expectation (v.1)

[His Desire - He wants to go to the house of the LORD!]

How do we grow “expectation”? One way is by remembering.

The Principle - Remembering has a way of keeping things fresh.

Remember the place you worship (vs. 2-3)

Remember the people with whom you worship (v. 4a-5)

Remember the precept to worship (v. 4b)

The principle - We are shaped more by our practices than we are by our passions.

Be a person of prayer - for this church, and the Church (vs. 6-9)

Be a person of peace (v. 7)
