Living Hope

What are the barriers you face in sharing your faith?

We're starting a new sermon series titled "Living Hope". This series is designed to remind and teach us of God's resurrection power. We will study four resurrections this month and learn about our Living Hope.

2 Kings 4:8-37

  • v. 8-10 What do you know about the person Elisha? How does the woman serve as a pathway for hope for him? Is there someone in your world who needs you to be a pathway of hope? Spend some time this week praying about that.
  • v. 11-13 How does the woman's response answer Elisha's question? Do those around you detect your contentment? Can you identify the source of your contentment?
  • v. 14-17 Note the parallel with Sarai in Genesis 18. Discuss the promised son in each case as a type of Christ.
  • v. 18-21 Try to describe the pain of the death of a child for a parent.
  • v. 21-25a Are the mother's actions in these verses acts of hope? If so, how? How can we express hope in the face of grief and loss?
  • v. 25b-28 Why does the woman hide her son's death from Gehazi only to "unload" on Elisha?
  • v. 31 Consider Gehazi's report in verse 31--is this an expression of hope?
  • v. 32-37 Take on the character of Elisha and tell us about the process by which the son is brought back to life.
  • v. 37 Would you call this an act of strong faith on the part of the mother? Why or why not?
From the sermon on this passage share the main point God has pressed on your heart.
