Sermon Outline | Group Questions
Light and dark, truth and lies, good and evil. While the world often feels like it’s filled with shades of gray, we all know that there are ways of living in the world that fill us with hope and joy, and there are ways of being that cause regret and despair. Join us in season three of our teaching series from the Gospel of John, Light in the Darkness, as we follow Jesus as he guides us on the path of life.
Light in the Darkness: Advent
Bible Text: John 14:1-4 | Pastor, Assad Saif
Advent occurs every year, and inaugurates the Christmas season, obviously because it celebrates the arrival of Jesus as a baby. The celebration of Advent is an old tradition, and it is celebrated in various ways. Last year, we had readings and lit candles in our Sunday services. Some churches do that every year. Here at Orchard we are always looking for ways to connect with people, and explore a variety of ways practicing our faith.
Many times Advent is celebrated as a happy time in the church because Christmas time is a happy time for us all. However, the tradition of celebrating Advent actually focuses more on the darkness of the world, the horror of sin, and the pain of a life lived with the absence of God’s presence.
As we continue our Sermon Series through the Gospel of John, we will look at John 14:1-14. The disciples are feeling a sense of insecurity and dread as the reality of Jesus leaving becomes more and more real. Still, Jesus gives us amazing words of hope. I look forward to sharing this with you Sunday!
