Escondido is more than 100 years old and has seen considerable change over the years. Our desire is to start a church to break through the barriers and meet the needs that face this current generation.
Studies reveal church planting to be one of the most effective ways to reach such people with the Gospel of Christ. It is reported that 60 to 80 percent of people in new congregations were not previously active in any local church. People that have never attended a church are many times more attracted to attend new churches rather than a church that is older where it seems everyone already knows one other.
Your Orchard Leadership
Assad Saif, Pastor
If I can do anything, my hope is to do things that help people find and follow Jesus. We started the Orchard so people can find hope, and experience love through faith in Christ.
Favorite verse: Rom. 5:8 "but God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Dan Vandewarker, Youth and Family Pastor
It is my greatest joy to help children and students come to know who Jesus is and commit their life to Him. I am responsible for leading our student and college ministries and work closely with staff and volunteers that work with children from birth through elementary. I also get to work with different ministry teams at Orchard from our tear down and setup teams, welcome, hospitality and a few others. It is truly a gift to serve at the Orchard.
Favorite verse: (It tends to vary) John 1:12 - Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
Tonya Pinkerton, Children's Ministry Director
Jesus made it a point to tell the disciples that he wanted the children to come and know Him. Our desire at the Orchard is to help kids know who Jesus is by reading His word, to show them God's amazing love and to encourage a lifelong relationship with Him in a fun and safe environment.
Favorite verse: Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold unswervingly to the Hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.
Pete Turner, First Impressions
The First Impressions Ministry seeks to help people experience the love of Jesus by making them feel at home at Orchard Community Church (OCC) from the moment they enter our campus to the moment they leave. This ministry focuses on finding volunteers to join The Orchard in creating a welcoming and helpful experience each Sunday!
JanBittner, Congregational Care
Believing that every person and family attending The Orchard is a vital part of The Body, we will do our best to offer love, care and support for those in need. In these last days, The Church must do its part to not only fulfill The Great Commission, love the hurting and lost in the local community, but also strive to care for those within our own body. After all, we are a family in the truest sense with God as our Father!
Carlos Maldonado, Church Administrator
Responsible to the Pastor for administering the business affairs of the Orchard Community Church (OCC) and working with OCC volunteers and staff to achieve the objectives and vision of OCC.
Favorite Verse: Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your good spirit lead me on level ground. Psalm 143:10
Dan Martinez, Security
Because of the imperfect world we live in OCC Security is here to help provide a safe and welcoming place of worship for the congregation and children's ministries through vigilant observation, wisdom and Christ-likeness for any danger that may present itself on a Sunday morning.
Kirk Miller, Setup Team
I help unload the truck for the nursery/Children's ministry and outside hospitality on Sunday mornings. I love being a part of setting the environment for our church to worship God.
Favorite verse: Psalm 139:23 because allowing God to see our hearts and intentions makes a huge difference in how we live.
Our Faith and Future
Our vision is to invite people to find hope and experience love through faith in Jesus.
Orchard Community Church is an inviting community of believers seeking to help people find and follow Jesus. Our desire is to build a community built on our FAITH, HOPE and LOVE in Christ. We will seek to help people of all ethnicities; ages and backgrounds grow in their relationship with God, connect in their relationship with others and share their faith with people in their neighborhoods and around the world. We hope this process will change the way people see and understand Christianity.
As a church our greatest hope and desire is to create a community:
- Where people find hope and life change in Christ.
- Where people can learn the truth of God’s Word and how to live it.
- Where people connect with each other through life-sharing relationships.
- That reaches out to people harassed and helpless (Matthew 9:36), helping them find truth and love through faith in Christ.
- That works together to provide “easy to find” safe places for kids.
- That strives to see the climate of the city move from unsafe and violent to safe and peaceful.
- That is diverse in ethnicity and united by our common great love of God.
- That serves in the church, in our neighborhoods, and around the world.
- That is willing to try new and innovative things for the sake of helping people find a meaningful relationship with God.
- That generously shares our faith, hope and love.
We Lead through Membership
Becoming a member anywhere requires commitment and heart.
At the Orchard our hope is to invite people into our church family who want to be committed to see God transform the community of Escondido by inviting people to find hope and experience love through faith in Christ. The church is called the “body of Christ” in the bible making it a living organism bound together by God Himself. When people “join” a local church they are contributing to advancing the Kingdom of God on earth by participating in the progression of building up the Body of Christ. There really is no greater mission on earth!
What is Membership at The Orchard?
Here at the Orchard when we use the word “membership” we are defining it with words like, commitment, partnership, service, sacrifice and covenant relationship. To be a member at a church is different than being a member anywhere else. When you say you want to be a member at the Orchard you are saying that you believe this is where God wants you to be and where you believe God is alive and active. We invite you to take a step and become part of the family at the Orchard where you will be part of what helps the church reach people by inviting them to find hope and experience love through faith in Christ.
What do we require?
- Belong: Be part of our church for at least six months or more.
- Believe: Learn about us by *watching or listening to a sermon series titled “Rooted @ The Orchard”. Go through our “Rooted @ The Orchard Devotional” with one other person of your choosing. ($5 in print or free download). Read the OCC Constitution & By Laws by clicking here.
- Become: Join us at a member meeting where you share your story of putting your faith in Jesus for your salvation.
How can I get started?
At the Orchard we want to be great hosts! The goal of course is to help you join the family so we will help you get started. Getting started is easy!
Pastor Assad also did a whole sermon series on the subject, which you can find all 10 videos here!
