SONG TITLE: READY OR NOT

Verse 1
Come now as you are
Or as you want to be
Are you ready
Are you ready
Come now tired broken
Scared or just in need
Ready or not it’s alright
Take your time
If nothing else just come

Tag
Are you ready
Are you ready

Verse 2
Come now bring your hopes
Your dreams your doubts your scars
Are you ready
Are you ready
Come now bring your hurts
Your fears your faith your heart
Are you ready
Are you ready or not

Chorus 1
There’s no place like His presence
There’s no time like the now
Ev’ry one two or three of us
Count Him in here and now
He welcomes the broken
He’s alright with your past
He’s not mad at any one of us
But He waits with open arms
Says come

Verse 3
Come now leave your inhibitions
At the door
Are you ready
Are you ready
Come now lay your burdens down
He’s got them all
Are you ready
Are you ready or not

Chorus 2
He’s still faithful to deliver
Mighty as ever to save
He’s still good on His promises
And His love still never fails
He’s not moved by perfection
Or how well we look the part
But He’s wild about the hidden stuff
Like He’s wild about the heart

Verse 4
Come now for all we’ve seen
We ain’t seen nothing yet
Are you ready
Are you ready
Come now bring Him praise
For what He might do next
Are you ready
Are you ready or not

Chorus 3
He’s already bought our freedom
He’s already paid our debt
He’s already done the miracle
He’s already conquered death
He’s our light and salvation
He’s our rock solid hope
He’s already done enough for us
He’s already doing more

Chorus 4
He’s already seen the ending
He’s already seen us through
He’s already breaking out in us
He’s already on the move
He’s already won our battles
He’s already paved the way
He’s already gone ahead of us
And He is ready when we are

Verse 5
Come now for all we’ve seen
We ain’t seen nothing yet
Are you ready
Are you ready
Come now bring Him praise
For what He’s gonna do next
Are you ready
Are you ready or not
Come

SONG TITLE: COME THOU LONG EXPECTED JESUS

Verse 1
Come, thou long expected Jesus
Born to set thy people free
From our fears and sins release us
Let us find our rest in thee
Israel’s strength and consolation
Hope of all the earth thou art
Dear desire of every nation
Joy of every longing heart
Joy of every heart

Verse 2
Born thy people to deliver
Born a child and yet a King
Born to reign in us forever
Now thy gracious kingdom bring
By thine own eternal spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone
By thine all sufficient merit
Raise us to thy glorious throne

Interlude
oh oh oh oh oh

Bridge
You draw the hearts of shepherds
You draw the hearts of kings
Even as a baby,
You were changing everything
You called me to Your Kingdom
Before Your lips could speak
And even as a baby,
You were reaching out for me

And now we are awaiting
The day of Your return
When every eye will see You
As heaven comes to earth
Until the sky is opened
Until the trumpet sounds
The bride is getting ready
The church is singing out

Verse 3
Come, thou long expected Jesus
Born to set thy people free
From our fears and sins release us
Let us find our rest in thee
Come, thou long expected King

SERMON NOTES with SCRIPTURE

SERMON TITLE: How to Celebrate a Covid Christmas

TEACHER:  Dennis Keating

PASSAGE: Luke 1:26-45

Luke 1:38 (NASB)

38 Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.

The Problem: During uncertain times, keep TRUSTING God’s unfolding PURPOSE AND PLAN for life. (Luke 1:38)

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB)

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

__________

Observation: It can be trusted first…
1. When we’re CONFUSED about God’s PERSPECTIVE. (v. 26)

Luke 1:26-27 (NASB)

26 Now in the sixth month (of Elizabeth’s pregnancy) the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth;

27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

What do the Scriptures tell us about Mary?

She was engaged to a “carpenter” (Matt 13:55) named “Joseph” which would have happened between the ages of 12-13 and been considered a binding, legal agreement of marriage, but without sexual contact between them.

We’re told Joseph was in the blood line of King David which is important because it was prophesied in 2Samuel 7 that the Messiah would be one of David’s “descendants.”

What is clear from the context is that she was “highly favored” (NIV) because of being CHOSEN to be the “Mother of the CHRIST-CHILD.”

Her “favor” wasn’t from her being sinless or perfect in any way. It came from her being chosen for the role of Jesus’ earthly mother.

__________

Luke 1:29a (NASB)

29a But she was very perplexed at this statement;

The original word (diatarasso) could be translated “greatly troubled” or greatly confused or greatly disturbed by what she heard because she didn’t get why she was being called a “highly favored” person.

Luke 1:29b (NASB)

29b and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

Question: Have you ever been confused as God’s perspective on things?

__________

Observation: She also becomes completely baffled…
2. When UNNERVED by God’s CALLING. (v. 30)

Luke 1:30a (NASB)

30a The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary…

Luke 1:30b (NASB)

30b …for you have found favor with God.

LIKE NOAH
In that way, she was like Noah who is said to have…
“found favor in the eyes of the Lord.” (Genesis 6:8)

Luke 1:31a (NASB)

31a And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son…

Luke 1:31b (NASB)

31b …and you shall name Him Jesus.

Luke 1:32a (NASB)

32a He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High;

Luke 1:32b-33 (NASB)

32b …the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.

Luke 1:34 (NASB)

34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?

God’s unfolding plan for her life was completely outside her ability to comprehend it and therefore terrified her.

__________

What we are called to do is to trust THE PRINCIPLE revealed in the Scriptures that Walking a PAINFUL pathway is often the PREREQUISITE for reaching full PONTENTIAL.

Luke 1:35a (NASB)

35a The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you…

Luke 1:35b (NASB)

35b …and the power of the Most High will overshadow you…

Luke 1:35c (NASB)

35c …and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

Observation: How would you process all that news? Mary was apparently…
3. When WONDERING about God’s POWER to pull it all off.

Luke 1:36 (NASB)

36 And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

God had done the same for Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 18:1-15) at ages 100 and 90.
He had done it for Elkanah and Hannah (1 Samuel 1-2) with the birth of Samuel.

Luke 1:37 (NASB)

37 For nothing will be impossible with God.

Observation: God is still THE MIRACLE WORKING GOD.

__________

Luke 1:39-42 (NIV)

39 Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah, 40 and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
40 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb 41 and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

Luke 1:45 (NIV)

45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.

His Promise: He will not CALL you to anything that He will not EMPOWER you to fulfill.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

9 My grace is sufficient for you.

His promise is that in the journey of His calling for your life:
– you won’t get “grace” too soon or too late;
– you won’t get too much or too little;
– you’ll get the empowerment to fulfill God’s calling upon your life.
