Verse 1
There is power
power
Here in this hour
this hour
We’re all together
together
Waiting here as one
(REPEAT)

Whoa
Hear the sound from Heaven
Whoa
A mighty rushing wind
Whoa
We’re calling for revival
God let Your fire fall again
It’s burning in my soul
Burning in my soul

All Your sons
and Your daughters
Dreaming the dreams
of their Father
Seeing the signs
and the wonders
The Kingdom of God

This fire inside
I cannot contain it
So let it shine
I cannot contain it
This light of mine

You were the Word at the beginning
One with God the Lord Most High
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ

My sin was great
Your love was greater
What could separate us now

SONG TITLE: BATTLE BELONGS

Verse 1
When all I see is the battle
You see my victory
When all I see is a mountain
You see a mountain moved
And as I walk through the shadow
Your love surrounds me
There’s nothing to fear now
For I am safe with You

Chorus
So when I fight I’ll fight on my knees
With my hands lifted high
O God the battle belongs to You
And every fear I lay at Your feet
I’ll sing through the night
O God the battle belongs to You

Verse 2
And if You are for me
Who can be against me
For Jesus there’s nothing
Impossible for You
When all I see are the ashes
You see the beauty
When all I see is a cross
God You see the empty tomb

Bridge
(An) Almighty Fortress You go before us
Nothing can stand against
The power of our God
You shine in the shadows
You win every battle
Nothing can stand against
The power of our God

Tag
O God the battle belongs to You

SERMON NOTES with SCRIPTURE

SERMON TITLE: Unified over Polarized

TEACHER:  Dennis Keating

PASSAGE: Luke 10:25-37

In preparation, please open your Bibles to Luke 10

The Samaritan is a the one for all of us to be.

Luke 10:25-26 (NIV)

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

The Problem:
The human heart is polarized against the heart of God.
(vv. 25-26)

Polarity is defined by how an object is oriented.
Typically this means there are two poles.
In terms of magnetism there is a positive and negative polarity.

We are like the magnets.
We born magnetized with a self-interested polarity and
God exists with a polarity that…. Well is all about God.

It is critical for us to decide if we are going to live a life of being polarized against God and each other because of our political affiliations.

Luke 10:27-28 (NIV)

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

Observation:
Going all in with God changes your polarity.
(vv. 27-28)

To secure “inherit eternal life” one must go all in with God. That means not holding back anything.

____________________

At some point you have to come face to face with your polarity and whether or not you will choose to put down what you’re fighting for and pick up what God is fighting for.

Luke 10:29-37 (NIV)

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”  30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Observation:
Mercy changes your polarity.
(vv. 29-37)

This parable is uniquely designed to deal with the issue of:

  • Jesus proving again He is God.
  • He has superior knowledge of the Law of Moses.
  • He is a superior teacher of the Law.
  • He understands the cultural prejudices and racism the Jews had toward Samaritans.
  • He understands the human heart and it’s weaknesses.

Mercy. Changing your polarity will require that you “Go and do likewise”.
Put your money where your mouth is.
Chase after Jesus. Love the people Jesus loves.
That includes people in in this church and the church across the street.
It includes saints and sinners.

That person (down in the bottom of your heart) that you feel justified in hating… that is your neighbor.
The people who are easy to ignore… those are your neighbors.

Ephesians 4:1-6 (NIV)

1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Observation:
Mercy changes your polarity.
(Eph 4:1-6)

Ephesians 4:2-3 (NIV)

2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Your Next Step:
Make a decision to make Jesus first in your life.

We need to make sure we are picking up Jesus and putting down ANYTHING that complicates or confuses that.

We have an amazing opportunity to show the world what it means to have hope.
