SONG TITLE: I BELONG

Intro
I see hope coming on the horizon
There’s no need for hiding ’cause I belong

Verse 1
Here I am
In the presence of the great I Am
Near to Your heart oh God
I have found my joy
I’ve searched so long
In darkness I walked so far
Fighting but I’m holding on
When Your love draws near

Chorus 1

(Oh) Hallelujah I belong here
In Your presence safe and secure
I see hope coming on the horizon
There’s no need for hiding ’cause I belong

Verse 2
I often fail
But daily Your love prevails
Christ my peace within
I will trust in You
In Your presence Lord
Joys will overflow
You are God and friend
I am whole again

Bridge

I belong here I belong here
I belong here in Your presence (in Your presence)

Ending

I see hope coming on the horizon
There’s no need for hiding ’cause I belong

SONG TITLE: UNASHAMED LOVE

Verse 1

You’re callin’ me to lay aside
The worries of my day
To quiet down my busy mind
Find a hiding place
Worthy (You are) worthy
I open up my heart and let
My spirit worship Yours
I open up my mouth
And let a song of praise come forth
Worthy You are worthy

Chorus

Of a childlike faith
And of my honest praise
And of my unashamed love
Of a holy life
And of my sacrifice
And of my unashamed love

Ending

Worthy You are worthy (2X)
You are worthy (3X)

SERMON NOTES with SCRIPTURE

SERMON TITLE: Be Holy

TEACHER: Dr. Assad Saif

PASSAGE: 1 Peter 1:13 – 2:3

The Problem: Holiness seems like a bad word.

__________

Holiness, simply means being set a part.

We are willfully committing ourselves to being different.

1 Peter 1:13-16 (NIV)

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Main Point: Be Holy. (vv. 13-16)

Questions:

Are you holy?
Are you living life different than what the world has to offer?
What is a way you can step into holiness this week?

__________

1 Peter 1:17-21 (NIV)

17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

Observation 1: Live as a reverent foreigner. (vv. 17-21)

Questions:

What does it mean to live as a foreigner somewhere?
Have you ever lived or visited anywhere outside of the home you grew up in?
How about your home country?

1. Foreigners feel out of place.
2. The food is not familiar.
3. Risks seem to be everywhere.
4. So do opportunities.
5. You do not feel secure.
6. You can’t wait to for things to feel normal.
7. Eventually things feel normal.

Questions:

Are you living as a reverent foreigner? or
Are you living as an irreverent domestic?

__________

1 Peter 1:22-25 (NIV)

22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
24 For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you.

Observation 2: Love one another deeply. (vv. 22-25)

Are you loving people?
It’s easy to be critical of people and get hung up on pettiness.
We need to be better.
We need to obey Jesus, be holy and love each other.

__________

1 Peter 2:1-3 (NIV)

1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

The Challenge: Keep dying to yourself so that you can live in Christ. (2:1-3)

Where are you when it comes to dying more and more so you can live in Christ?
You have tasted the kindness of the Lord, that is the holiness God has for you, the holiness you have been invited into.
Will you take a step, further into the holiness God offers you?

~End of Sermon~

SONG TITLE: BUILD MY LIFE

Verse 1
Worthy of ev’ry song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of ev’ry breath we could ever breathe
We live for You

Verse 2
Jesus the name above ev’ry other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of ev’ry breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You

Chorus
Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder and show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone

SONG TITLE: AIN’T NO GRAVE

Verse 1
Shame is a prison as cruel as a grave
Shame is a robber and he’s come to take my name
Love is my redeemer lifting me up from the ground
Love is the power where my freedom song is found

Chorus 1
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down
When I hear that trumpet sound
I’m gonna rise up out of the ground
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down

Verse 2
Fear is a liar with a smooth and velvet tongue
Fear is a tyrant he’s always telling me to run
Love is resurrection and love is a trumpet sound
Love is my weapon I’m gonna take my giants down

Verse 3
There was a battle a war between death and life
There on a tree the Lamb of God was crucified
He went on down to hell He took back every key
He rose up as a lion
Now He’s setting all the captives free

Chorus 2
There ain’t no grave could hold His body down
There ain’t no grave could hold His body down
When He heard the trumpet sound
He rose up out of the ground
There ain’t no grave could hold His body down
There ain’t no grave could hold His body down
