GLORIOUS DAY

(Jason Ingram, Jonathan Smith, Kristian Stanfill, and Sean Curran)

Verse 1
I was buried beneath my shame
Who could carry that kind of weight
It was my tomb ’til I met You

Verse 2
I was breathing but not alive
All my failures I tried to hide
It was my tomb ’til I met You

Chorus
(‘Cause when) You called my name (and)
I ran out of that grave
Out of the darkness into Your glorious day
You called my name (and) I ran out of that grave
Out of the darkness into Your glorious day

Verse 3
Now Your mercy has saved my soul
Now Your freedom is all that I know
The old made new Jesus when I met You

Bridge
I needed rescue my sin was heavy
But chains break at the weight of Your glory
I needed shelter I was an orphan
Now You call me a citizen of Heaven
When I was broken You were my healing
Now Your love is the air that I’m breathing
I have a future my eyes are open

GOD OF REVIVAL

(Brian Johnson, Phil Wickham)

Verse 1
We’ve seen what You can do, oh God of wonders
Your power has no end
The things You’ve done before in greater measure
You will do again

Pre-Chorus
There’s no prison wall You can’t break through
No mountain You can’t move
All things are possible
There’s no broken body You can’t raise
No soul that You can’t save
All things are possible

Chorus
The darkest night
You can light it up
You can light it up
Oh God of revival
Let hope arise
Death is overcome
You’ve already won
Oh God of revival

Verse 2
You rose in victory and now You’re seated
Forever on the throne
So why should my heart fear what You defeated
I will trust in You alone

Bridge
Come awaken Your people, come awaken this city
Oh God of revival pour it out, pour it out
Every stronghold will crumble, I hear the chains hit the ground
Oh God of revival pour it out, pour it out

Interlude
Oo – oh oo – oh, God of revival

SERMON NOTES with SCRIPTURE

SERMON TITLE: Thinking About…
What is Next

PASSAGE: Romans 15:22-33

“When I look outside, I feel nothing; when I look inside, I feel nothing! I’m in a lockdown of emotions! Completely Blank, it’s Black everywhere…Suffocating, claustrophobic, saturation point is crossed!” (Somya Kedia)

Have you hit the saturation point with this virus? Are you beyond that point?

__________

The Fundamental Commitment: FOLLOWING GOD’S WILL.

Romans 15:32 (NASB)

32 …so that I may come to you in joy by the will of God and find refreshing rest in your company.

Acts 20:24 (NASB)

24 I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.

__________

FOLLOWING JESUS’ EXAMPLE

John 5:30 (NASB)

30 I can do nothing on my own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

__________

FIVE CHARACTERISTICS

ONE) A willingness to God’s interruptions.

Romans 15:22 (NASB)

22 For this reason I have often been prevented from coming to you;

Greek: enkoptw: Prevented or hindered.

Genesis 50:20 (NASB)

20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.

Ester 4:14 (NASB)

14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?”

Recognize: God is at work in this interruption!

Follow the will of God above all else, even in the interruption.

__________

TWO) A readiness to make new plans. (Romans 15:23-24)

Romans 15:23-24 (NASB)

23 but now, with no further place for me in these regions, and since I have had for many years a longing to come to you 24 whenever I go to Spain—for I hope to see you in passing, and to be helped on my way there by you, when I have first enjoyed your company for a while—

The Insight: Careful planning doesn’t demonstrate a lack of trust in God’s leading.
It’s part of following His leading!

Proverbs 16:9 (NASB)

9 The mind of man plans His way, but the LORD directs his steps.

Proverbs 21:5 (NASB)

5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, but everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty.

What big dreams need rekindling? During this time of uncertainty, don’t be afraid to dream big dreams and make plans to go for it!

__________

Following the will of God means 1.) an openness to interruptions; 2.) a readiness to make future plans; thirdly, it means…

THREE) Fulfilling Present Responsibilities.

Romans 15:25-27 (NASB)

25 but now, I am going to Jerusalem serving the saints.

26 For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.

27 Yes, they were pleased to do so, and they are indebted to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are indebted to minister to them also in material things.

__________

Greek: epiteleomai: Completed

THE LESSON is straightforward: Follow what you know to be God’s will today and He’ll show you what He wants you to do tomorrow.
But if we don’t follow today, why would God reveal what His will for tomorrow is?

1Thess 4:3 (NASB)

3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;

Do you need to start doing what you know to be God’s will right now?

__________

FOUR) Strive to be a blessing to others.

Romans 15:28-29 (NASB)

28 Therefore, when I have finished this, and have put my seal on this fruit of theirs, I will go on by way of you to Spain. 29 I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.

Psalm 1:1-2, 3 (NASB)

1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, not stand in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers! 2 But his delight is in the Law of the LORD … and in whatever he does, he prospers.

In the midst of covid-19 and the reality of a future that is uncertain, seek to follow God’s will and strive to be a blessing to people in any way you can!

__________

FIVE) An awareness of the need for community.

Romans 15:30-31 (NASB)

28 Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, 31 that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may prove acceptable to the saints;

God never intended for any of His children to live as an ONLY CHILD.

__________

Where must we start?
A full dedication to Him!

Romans 12:1-2 (NASB)

1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good, acceptable and perfect.
