15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
I have four children and my baby girl asked me the other day if she could use my iPad. I let her know I’d give it to her in a few minutes and that she should go and play. She said “okay daddy”. When she walked away I thought for a minute “I love that she is willing to listen and obey.”
When reading the shepherds response I see something similar. Just try to picture it for a moment. The angle shows up while you’re herding sheep, then more angles start singing in the sky. It all seems too crazy to believe. Why were they so quick to respond? The shepherds demonstrate great obedience.
Like any parent is pleased when their kids listen and obey them, so too is our God.
I believe God is very satisfied in us when we trust him and do the things He asks us to do. Looking closely at this, I don’t believe the shepherds are trying to complete the task in order to honor God, rather their response is connected to their belief. They simply believe God sent them a message and the rational conclusion is to obey. That is awesome!
