37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
The “Christ” in Christmas came to bring forgiveness & life.
Freedom is one of the greatest gifts people can experience. We know this especially when we think of the practice of slavery in America. Slaves were traded and treated as sub-human. Many people fought and died in order to reconcile that & today we have a different country because of it. Things aren’t perfect in America… but they are better because we have freedom. Freedom to speak and share our thoughts, live and pursue our dreams & practice whatever religion we feel most compelled to place our faith in.
Jesus came to bring freedom and life. The kind of freedom he offers is not limited to our “rights” but our spiritual condition. The human soul suffers imperfections. We choose to do things the way we feel we should, even if that means being selfish. These choices separate us from our fellow person and especially from God. If God is perfect he cannot exist in the presence of sinful people. Through Jesus and the forgiveness he offers we can experience freedom from the bondage of slavery sin puts us in. The freedom allows us to experience the love, peace, joy & hope God offers.
This is the true gift Jesus brings with his birth. This is the gift God has given all people should they choose to receive it & this is the greatest gift anyone can experience.
