Galatians 4:4-5

Day 19.jpg

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to son-ship.

It was a freshman football locker room….

My buddy and I were getting ready for practice and out of nowhere the varsity football players walked in the room.  These guys were giants compared to us.  It was the time of the week to pick a couple of freshman and walk them over to a trashcan and let them know they were worthless.

My friend was chosen.  They assaulted him with lies and allegations.  He said nothing.  Nobody said anything.  So I said something.  I let them know he as being falsely accused and they needed to walk out and leave us alone.  They didn’t agree.  So they took us both.

They did this to have fun with us but the act left us feeling like we were worthless.  They were the seniors & we were the freshman.  In this economy they had power and claim on our lives to treat us as trash, hence the trash can.

So they walked us out and into the blinding sun.  Only 15 steps away was the varsity coach.  He gave them one nod and they let us go.  I can’t describe how incredible that moment felt.  To be trash one moment and the next to be given value… worth.  We were redeemed.

This is what God did when he sent Jesus to be born.  He redeemed humanity by giving it another chance to have worth by trusting that Jesus is Lord.

My analogy isn’t perfect.  The coach in my story paid a small price… less coolness from the varsity team.

The price the Jesus paid was far greater….his life
